Clinical Study on Therapeutic Effects of Ofloxacin (Tarivid^(®)) in Prostatitis

Abstract

|
nical study on therapeutic effects of ofloxacin (Tarivid®) in prostatitis was performed in 32 patients with various degrees of prostatitis and following results were obtained.
1. In 13 patients with bacterial prostatitis, ofloxacin brought total elimination of bacteria in 10 patients, but persistent infection(one Pseudomonas aeruginosa, one Proteus mirabilis) in 2 patients and superinfection. in 1 patient (E. coli).
2. 15 patients showed complete resolution and 13 major improvement, only 4 patients was regarded failure.
Thus, 47 percent showed full clinical recovery and 40 percent marked improvement.
3. We did not observe any significant sign or symptom of side effects except mild gastro-intestinal discomfort, dizziness and itching after receiving the full recommended dosage of 400 mg. ofloxacin in BID.
Judging from above results ofloxacin (Tarivid®) may be considered to be one of the most effective antibacterial agent in the treatment of prostatitis with very low rate of side effects.
